Off to Hong Kong!

April 20/21th, 2016

I finished writing my last exam yesterday so I'm officially off classes for the next 16 months! I'm really excited to start my next co-op work term at the beginning of May but until then, time for a short adventure..

Finally getting to test out the backpack I got for Christmas!

I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I arrived at YVR but the agent at the Cathay Pacific desk said that today's flight to Hong Kong was really light so it was no problem flying stand-by. Awesome, off to a good start! The terminal wasn't too busy but the flight still ended up being delayed about 2 hours due to some technical problems with the aircraft. Never something you want to hear before flying but apparently the problem was easy to fix. We had to wait around for the paperwork to be completed. On the plus side, the flight was pretty empty at the rear so I had an entire row to myself! So spacious..

Cruising over BC.

It was about 13 hours to HKG so we touched down at around 9:00 pm local time. It wasn't raining but it was pretty humid. Luckily, Canadians don't need a visa to visit Hong Kong but I was issued a tiny paper slip at Immigrations saying that I need to leave within 3 months. No problem there..

The airport buses only take exact change so I had to break my note at the local 7-11 before finding the transit loop. There were so many buses I'm glad Auntie Jo gave me directions on which one to take beforehand! It was about an hour's ride into the city - sky scrapers and lights everywhere.

Auntie Jo's apartment is right next to a mall which I'm assuming is City Plaza because that's what the bus stop was named. I got settled in and chowed down on some wonton mein. So yummy, it definitely hit the spot. The last time I was in Hong Kong, I was only 12 at the time so the memories are a big foggy but I'm excited to explore the city again, solo and with some friends! I'm really excited to see Manki again tomorrow! I don't have many plans yet for the week ahead so here's what feels like my most spontaneous adventure to date.. I love it.
